Virginia Ruth Conti (Schmitt)

Age 90, formerly of Sheraden, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23rd, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert, devoted mother of Robert (Diane) Conti and Terry (Jim) Pastir, loving grandmother of Cara (Nick) Stonesifer and Jenna Conti (Alex), and dear sister of the late Herbert Schmitt. 

Virginia was born on November 18, 1930 to Aloysius and Coletta Schmitt. Throughout her life, she cared for her husband, sister in law, aunt, mother in law, and brother, all while holding down a full-time job until she was 75 years old. She worked various jobs as a bookkeeper, having to take two buses to and from work each day. She was a selfless person who was devoted to her faith and was commonly found with her rosary in hand. Every year she made generous contributions to her church and various charities, no matter her financial situation. Despite the hardships she endured, she never lost her sense of humor and wit. She was strong willed and stubborn, kind and generous, and someone you genuinely wanted to be around. 

Virginia loved animals, lottery tickets, bingo, Pepsi, and talking on her phone. But most of all, she loved her family. She was a mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She’s touched the hearts of everyone she’s ever met, as evidenced by the many cards she received and kept. People cared about her because she cared about people. She was so special to her family and friends, and truly one of a kind. Though her heart may have been physically weak toward the end, it was full of kindness, love, and laughter. And that is how she will always be remembered. 

Family and friends will be received on THURSDAY from 4 – 7 pm at the William F. Conroy Funeral Home, 2944 Chartiers Avenue, Sheraden. Funeral mass in Ascension Church of St. Philip Parish, 114 Berry St., Pgh 15205 on Friday at 10 am.
