Sandrina “Sam” Swider (Angeli)
Sandrina “Sam” Swider, 72, of Presto, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her husband and children Friday, April 29, 2022 after a battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Matthew G. Swider; adoring mother of Matthew R. (Jenni Gonya) Swider, Jonathan (Kelly Lewis) Swider; doating MomMom to their grandchildren Matthew “MJ”, Courtney, Kaylie, and Carly Swider; sister of Richard and Robert Angeli; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Sam was born on June 17, 1949, the daughter of Riccardo and Mary Jane (Koran) Angeli in Philadelphia. She grew up in South Jersey within a very close, multigenerational, and traditional family. She graduated from Holy Cross High School and attended Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH where she met her future husband. Inspired by her younger brother, who had Down’s Syndrome, she studied special education.
Sam raised her sons as a stay-at-home Mom. She was then the director of Pittsburgh Executive Association for six years. She loved to inspire children with the joy of reading as a volunteer tutor at Chartiers Valley Elementary School.
Sam’s family values of lifelong emotional support, intimate social circles, and frequent family gatherings were the most important aspects of her life. She loved to laugh, was blessed with beauty and grace, a captivating smile, and a sparkle in her eyes. Her genuine caring and kindness won many lasting friendships. She traveled around the world on adventures. She was a skier, golfer, cyclist, hiker, gardener and reader. A foodie, she loved sharing her culinary skills, preparing great meals for family and friends.
Anyone who met Sam understood that her love for life was contagious. Always a joy to be in her company, she will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert Angeli.
