Eric R. VandenHengel

Age 69, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022. Beloved son of the late George & Jean VandenHengel; beloved partner and friend of Joanne Valicenti; loving father of Daniel Joseph (Nancy) and Eric J. (Alexandra) VandenHengel; brother of Karen Butler, Bart, Scott, Peter, and Jack VandenHengel; grandfather of Marco and Luciano VandenHengel.

Eric worked for the City of Pittsburgh in the Parks & Recreation Department where he enjoyed working with the farmer’s markets and building the city skateparks.  He loved to teach kids how to skate at Schenley Ice Rink.  He attended Slippery Rock University where he was an excellent potter.  He loved all kinds of music intensely.  Some of his favorite days were spent at the beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where he loved to surf under his pseudonym “Rick”.  He always loved a good adventure!

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable contribution to a mental health advocacy organization of your choosing.
