RUSSELL D.

Age 89, on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 of N. Fayette Twp., formerly of Sheraden. Son of the late Roger W. and Julia (Schaub) Abernathy; beloved husband of the late Genevieve T. (Stenger) Abernathy; father and father-in-law of James R. and Mary Jo Abernathy; brother of the late Roger W. Abernathy, Jr., Margaret E. Schmitz, Fred S. and Eugene C. Abernathy;  brother in law of Richard and Mary Agnes Powers, William and the late Jane Soracco, Betty and the late John Stenger and the late Bill Stenger; also many nieces and nephews. Russell served in the Army during WW II and Korea. He served in the PA National Guard and retired as Sgt First Class.  He was a volunteer in the I.D. section of Charles E. Kelly Support Facility in Oakdale for many years and enjoyed writing The Pittsburgh Air Defense newsletter for all his Army family. Friends received Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the WILLIAM F. CONROY FUNERAL HOME, 2944 Chartiers Ave., Sheraden. Funeral Mass in Holy Innocents Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may  be made to the Salvation Army.
